SCADA is an acronym for supervisory control and data acquisition and it generally refers to industrial control systems (ICS). ICS computer systems are systems that monitor and control infrastructure, industrial or facility-based processes.

An infrastructure process could be private or public, and can include waste water collection and treatment, water treatment and distribution, electrical power transmission and distribution, oil and gas pipelines, wind farms, and large communication systems to name a few.

Then there are the industrial processes which include the areas of manufacturing, fabrication, production, refining and power generation. It has the possibility of running in batch, continuous, discrete or repetitive modes. Finally, a facility process can potentially occur in both in public and private facilities like buildings, airports and ships. They monitor and control heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

A SCADA system doesn’t just include a monitoring unit for acquiring data and issuing commands to a system. It can also be a Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s).

A point of note to recognize is that in the past, there was a distinction made between SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS’s), but nowadays, the difference between the two is becoming less and less defined. Both sets of technologies have progressed to the point of providing very similar monitoring and control solutions.

SCADA software is now developing into its third phase and, like most other operating systems, it is now networked. As a result, it is easier to monitor and distribute data across much larger geographical areas from your RTU. This also will mean that it could be possible to access the SCADA software on the internet and can be monitored and worked with through various virtual networks.

There are many SCADA solutions that we have on offer. If you would like to find out more about all SCADA solutions that we have at P.J. Boner & Co, then visit our website by clicking www.pjboner.com. Alternatively you can contact our sales office on +353 (0) 1 4505050 or email sales@pjboner.com. We are always available to answer any questions that you might have.

A pressure transmitter has many functions for different applications. When referring to a factory setting, a pressure transmitter is designed to serve two purposes. The first is to monitor the amount of pressure applied to a part of the process that is necessary to provide the required result. Considering a product cannot be sold if it is outside the correct pressure range, real-time measurement of the pressure is vital.

Pressure transmitters can also be used to measure liquid pressure and for the care and maintenance of expensive equipment. A simple example is an automobile has to use oil. The oil pressure must be maintained at a certain level to run smoothly. Diaphragms are connected to a variable resistor which monitors the level of pressure in the engine. Nowadays, the resistor can adjust the oil and voltage levels for the right balance between the two pressures. If there is no balance, the oil light flicks on in the dash.

For other uses in manufacturing, a pressure transmitter can be used as a safety monitor ensuring that no excess pressure has built up with any machinery. If the machine is producing pressure above normal, the pressure transmitter can alert the operator who can shut down the system and avoid potential accidents. Alternatively the system can be set up to shut down automatically when the pressure surpasses the safe threshold.

Pressure transmitters thus perform a very important role by making sure all machinery and equipment is working to the way that it is expected. It can provide a warning alert to operators when pressure levels have built up to unsafe levels. Therefore, they are considered essential tools to manufacturers of automobiles, aircraft and even satellites.

PJ Boner supplies a wide range of pressure transmitters and other industry related devices. The SET 46 electronic pressure transmitter measures relative or absolute pressure in spans between 0,035 and 31,5 bar. For a pressure measuring element it uses a piezoresistive sensor. In order to satisfy the process conditions it is possible to choose between sensors Protected from the process fluid by diaphragm, the sensor generates a signal corresponding to the actual pressure and is complete with a thermistor which also transmits the temperature of the measuring cell to the electronic system.

A pressure gauge is a device designed to measure pressure, usually gases or liquids. By definition, pressure is an expression of the force necessary in order to prevent a fluid from expanding. The gauge will measure any fluctuation in the pressure.

Pressure gauges have direct and indirect reading classifications. Regarding the indirect reading gauge, the pressure measured is from any gas property that’s changed by the density of the gas in the usual manner. In terms of the direct reading gauges, if a particle flux glances off a surface and creates some form of pressure; the level of this force per area is measured.

Power plants, mills and factories tend to be the most common users of pressure gauges. These gauges can be found in the fluid system where the spray nozzles and pumps are. If there is adequate care, the gauges can last a very long time. However, it is important to ensure that the gauge that is installed is the right size and design. Gauges vary and their applications vary, so expert advice as to which one is appropriate to use is crucial.

In order to improve the longevity of the pressure gauge, it is possible to purchase accessories in order to protect them. Though there are many variations of these useful devices, the most commonly used include snubbers, the shutoff valve, pulsation dampeners, chemical seals or pipe coils or siphons. It is quite often recommended at the time of purchasing to buy the pressure gauge with an accessory in order to facilitate the smooth operation of the gauge for as long as possible.

AT PJ & Boner, we supply the best brands in the world for digital pressure gauges and cater for most industry types and needs. These types of pressure gauges have highly accurate readings when it comes to converting hydraulic, pneumatic, or differential pressure. They convert the readings into signals that then appear on a digital screen. The readings are displayed numerically which make them simple to understand.

A pressure transducer is designed to convert pressure readings into analog for easy measurement. They are very versatile in the sense that they can be used for leak detections, air quality measurement and debris, or facilitate essential gauge measurements. Pressure transducers appear under many other names including pressure transmitters, senders, indicators and manometers.

There are a number of applications for pressure transducers. One such application is a process called flow sensing. Traditionally speaking, flow sensing is the use of the sensors in conjunction with the venturi effect (the reduction in fluid pressure resulting when a fluid flows through a constricted section of pipe) in order to measure flow. The resulting differential pressure is ultimately measured between two different segments of the venturi tube that have a different openings. There will be a pressure difference between the two parts and this difference is proportional to the flow rate. However, the difference tends to be quite small and as a result, you would have to use a low pressure sensor.

At PJ Boner, the pressure transducer that we use to measure flow rates is the Type 200 OEM Flow Sensor. The flow sensor of this particular range is based on the principle of Karman’s vortex trail which we have found to be extremely accurate. Instead of using a tube, a double trail of vortices are formed alternately on the sides of a cylinder where it is moving at right angles to its axis through a fluid, with the vortices in one row rotating in a direction opposite to that of the other row. The shedding of vortices on the damming body in the flow is directly proportional to the speed of the flow and the results of which are displayed on the integrated electronic monitor.

At PJ Boner, we supply a wide range of different pressure transducers. To find out more about our range of products and services, then visit our website www.pjboner.com. Alternatively, you can contact us now on +353 (0) 1 4505050. We are always available to answer any questions that you might have.
